I head the Financial Services team, which is able to give independent financial advice on all aspects of investment, pensions, insurance, inheritance tax planning and mortgages. I specialise in residential mortgages, buy to let mortgages, life protection, income protection and business protection as well as advising on pensions and investments. My experience was gained during 7 years in the Building Society industry prior to joining Birkett Long in 1989. I was made an Associate of the firm on 1 June 2011.
I hold the Certificate in Building Society Practice, the Chartered Insurance Institute Certificate of Proficiency, Financial Planning Certificates 1, 2 and 3, the Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice, IFS School of Finance Certificate in Regulated Equity Release and the Diploma for Financial Advisors. I am a member of the Personal Finance Society.
It is very unusual for a firm of solicitors to have an ‘in house’ financial services team and therefore provides Birkett Long's clients with the advantage of obtaining legal advice and independent financial advice ‘under one roof’.
The Financial Services team works closely with other teams within the firm, for example the Wills, Trusts and Probate team providing clients with inheritance tax planning and Family team providing advice to clients during a divorce on pension sharing orders and maintenance payments protection.
