Jennie Skingsley

Senior Associate, Head of Marketing

I run a team of problem solvers, which helps our legal teams identify and make the most of opportunities to grow the business, and manages the firm’s profile consistently. I love the variety that working in a marketing team in a law firm brings – every day is completely different. One day I might be writing objectives to help a team become more profitable or proofreading a newsletter draft; the next I could be writing a new web page and optimising it for search engines or liaising with a charity about a sponsorship opportunity.

I am a Senior Associate and the Head of Marketing at Birkett Long. My key responsibilities are creation of the firm’s marketing strategy and ensuring our activities feed directly into achieving our main objectives.

My average day usually revolves around strategy and campaign planning, and takes in all areas of the marketing mix. A large part of my role is overseeing the workloads and development of our Assistant Marketing Manager and Marketing Coordinator. I sit on the firm’s Strategic Board.

I am a Chartered Marketer, a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and I have completed the Professional Diploma in Marketing.

Much of my spare time is taken up by music (and shoes!). I am the co-founder and musical director of Exaltation! Choir. The choir was founded in 2008 and performs at weddings, charity concerts and many other events. At St Andrew’s Church, I coordinate the worship band at our monthly, informal ‘Ignite’ services. Each band member takes turns in leading worship, as well as playing instruments – I am a grade 8 flautist and, as well as singing, am often found enthusiastically bashing a cajón slightly out of time.

In 2015 I became a Trustee of registered charity the League of Friends of St Andrew’s Church, Halstead, having assisted with fundraising event ideas and planning over the previous couple of years. In March 2016 I was invited to become a Board member at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester. I am a member of the Strategy Board for Thurrock’s Next Top Boss – a Thurrock Council-run initiative working with schools and colleges. In May 2022, I stepped down from the Parochial Church Council of a church in Halstead, having been a member for 16 and half years, including a period of time as Vice Lay Chair.
