Exam success puts Chris' career on fast-track

Hard-working Chris Jarrold has qualified as a Financial Planner after passing five exams in 18 months.

Chris, from Coggeshall, joined Colchester-based Birkett Long IFA in 2015 after gaining experience in the pensions, investment management and banking sectors.

He has now qualified by passing his Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Financial Planning Practice exams and completing his Diploma in Financial Planning.

Nicola Ward, Team Leader and Financial Planning Manager, said: “Chris joined Birkett Long as part of our Trainee Adviser Programme with one part of the qualification under his belt but, in under two years, he has passed a further five exams to attain his qualification, an excellent  achievement.

“This is thoroughly deserved, and we wish him success in his career as a qualified Independent Financial Adviser.”

Two years ago Birkett Long IFA recognised there was a shortage of good quality financial advisers and decided to develop the Trainee Adviser Programme, with Chris becoming the first trainee.  The firm’s second trainee is expected to qualify next year and, with the scheme proving so successful, it is currently recruiting another.

Father-of-two Chris, 29, a former student of Kesgrave Sixth Form in Ipswich, worked in the town for eight years before joining a private bank in London.

Chris praised the support he has received from Birkett Long IFA: “The advisers and the wider firm have been fantastic in their support and encouragement towards me during my training. I have had a great deal to learn from a technical standpoint, and how to liaise with clients and provide appropriate advice.

“Birkett Long IFA has such a diverse client base that I’m learning every day. The relationships we build are for the long term, and I’m excited about the opportunity to develop my future in the firm.”

Outside work, Chris is a keen golfer and sportsman. He enjoys family walks and cycling and, with his wife, has just renovated his house – also learning about DIY in the process!
